Frequently Asked Questions

“Is my child’s growth on track?”

At every well-child visit, we track your child’s height, weight, and development against pediatric growth charts. Some children grow faster, some slower — that’s totally normal. What matters most is their consistent progress over time.

If you’re ever concerned about your child’s growth, or if something just doesn’t feel right, please schedule a visit. Trust your instincts — we’re here for you.

“How much should my baby (or child) be eating/sleeping?”

Every child is different, but we can guide you based on age and developmental stage. Newborns typically eat every 2–3 hours and sleep 14–17 hours a day. As children grow, both their appetites and sleep needs change — and that’s okay!

If you’re ever unsure or something seems off, bring them in. You know your child best, and we’re always happy to check.

“When should I bring my child in sick or wait it out?”

If your child has a fever, rash, trouble breathing, unusual behavior, or symptoms that are worsening or not going away — it’s always safest to check with us. You can use our symptom checker and we also offer same-day sick visits and walk-in hours.

That said, if you’re ever worried, don’t wait — just bring them in. Your peace of mind matters.

The nurses and front desk staff are so kind and helpful, as well as efficient! My daughter's appointment went very smoothly. We did wait for a little while (like maybe 15-20 minutes). But, when Dr Slaymaker took his time and listened definitely made up for that! I also appreciate so much that this office allows parents to decide how they want to vaccinate their children. This takes so much pressure off of going to well-child visits!

I have been very impressed with Village Pediatrics during my son’s first 7 months. 75-80% of the time we don’t have to wait more than 5-10 minutes for our appointment. All of the providers we have seen are knowledgeable and caring. The nurses did a great job with suctioning my son when he had RSV recently. I feel safe coming here and would recommend this practice.

I rarely write reviews but I am SO excited about this pediatrician office! I got the referral from a johnson county moms facebook group when I was looking to switch pediatricians. I scheduled a 2 year well visit with them but something came up with my daughter and we needed to be seen earlier (a few days ago). Village pediatrics was able to see me within 45 minutes of me calling in (our old pediatrician would just push us off to urgent care or the ER which was $100-$300 copay)! When we arrived there was a sick and well side which I greatly appreciated since my daughter was not sick. Once Dr. Lively entered the room he got eye level with my daughter and made sure to address her and make her feel comfortable FIRST. This was so sweet. I left the doctors with a plan of action and he even had a specialist personally reach out to me to further that plan of action. Overall 10/10 experience.

Never write reviews but saw one recently that gave my son’s doctor 1 star for “prioritizing profits over patients” and Dr Slaymaker has made it really clear in his actions and policies that this isn’t the case. I assume that the previous review doesn’t know how insurance and medical billing works and the amount of profits that are actually forgone in favor of the parents’ rights to dictate vaccine schedules. We get great care for our son and it’s awesome to see this is a place is educating med students so they can see how a practice should be run.

I have taken all 3 of my kids here since 2010. Yes, there have been times where we’ve had to wait way longer than we should have. That happens anywhere you go though. The front staff, the nurses, the doctors are all fantastic. Things have changed there since Covid with hours, but still wouldn’t change where I take my kids. Excellent place, highly recommend!

We've had nothing but good experiences in our nine months with Village Pediatrics. Waiting times are never more than 10 minutes, the nurses and two doctors we've seen have always made sure our questions are fully answered before the appointment is over.
